Description | Private letter book (volume 2) of J. Denham Pinnock, His Majesty's agent for Emigration. Letters here relate to financial and logistical organisation of emigrants migrating to the British colonies of Canada and Australia. Most letters are relative to British emigration to Quebec with many referring to sums paid for passage, various ships used to transport emigrants and shipping contracts. There is also information noted here relative to the systems of assigning bounties to particular classes of emigrants. At the end there is an index of the letters, noting to whom they were written, the date of their composition and a summary of their contents. |
