Collection Name Department of Agriculture: Immigration
Description Reports discussing the activities of immigration agents during the year. Includes statements of cattle, sheep and pigs in quarantine, demand for types of labourers, number of children received and immigration figures. Also includes reports on the state of settlements, the character of immigrants at Castle Garden, the quarantine station at Grosse Île and other new stations in the United States, information on the Women's Protective Immigration Society and statistics on wages and prices of provisions.
Series Description Records created and maintained by the Immigration Branch of the Department of Agriculture. As immigration and colonization became increasingly important to the new Dominion government, the high volume of information flowing into and required from the Minister's office overwhelmed the docket system of record-keeping.
