Biographical Note / History William Edward "Billy" Cochrane (1858-1929) was born and educated in England. (Note: his nickname was sometimes spelled "Billee"). In 1885, along with Hugh Graham, Ted and Frank Jenkins, and T. B. H. Cochrane, he purchased cattle in Montana and started the Little Bow Cattle Company in the Mosquito Creek area near Cayley, Alberta. It was also known as the CC Ranch because the brand was two C's back to back. The ranch specialised in Galloway cattle. In 1886 the ranch house was built, and in 1887 Billy's wife, Evelyn Constance Clementine Lamb, (d.1910) arrived. They had one son, Arthur Fitzgerald, (b.1888) who was sent to England in 1900 to be educated. The Cochranes travelled to England every fall, returning to Alberta in the spring. In 1909 they sold the ranch to Jack V. Drumheller and moved back to England permanently. For further information see Simon M.
