Description | Letters sent on behalf of the Commissioners for Emigration in Great Britain, referring to prices of crown lands in the Australian and Canadian colonies, revisions made to the Emigration Bill, applications made by pensioners of the Chelsea Hospital to emigrate and royal authorisation of free passage to emigrants. Some letters note the cost of conveying British emigrants to Australia, the rate of wages, application processes for unmarried men and women and amounts charged by ship owners for transporting working class emigrants to Australia. At the end of this volume there is an index listing letters by date, recipient and a brief summary of their contents. |
