Description Receipt for a ticket from Libau to Philadelphia via New York after the emigrant ship S.S. Norge sunk after hitting an iceberg off the coast of Scotland. Also includes army discharge papers of John Bodler, discharged from the Pennsylvania volunteers in 1865 after three years service, a marriage certificate for John Bodler and Sophia Hubers, business documents of August Bodler and documents regarding the marriage of Johann Heinrich Huber and Sophie Staehler.
Series Description The collection provides a considerable amount of demographic information on the extended family and includes an account book, birth and marriage certificates, and a family genealogy.
Biographical Note / History August Bodler and his wife Katharine emigrated from Lindau, Bavaria, to the United States ca. 1850 with their four children. They settled in the Bergen Hill, New Jersey area. In the late 1850s the family moved to Germania, Potter County, Pennsylvania, where August took up farming.
