Series Description | This collection contains good details on potential professions for Italian immigrants and in problems caused with local professionals, such as tailors. There is much on relations with the Catholic Relief Services and the Church, and on the use of Opera and Dining as ways of expressing cultural identity and raising funds. Some of the material in the series is in Italian. There is material on loans to immigrants and on overcoming the quota system. |
Biographical Note / History | ACIM was founded in 1951 to assist refugees. It worked to reform the Refugee Relief Act of 1953 and aided migrants in settling in. The ACIM also played an important role in lobbying Congress for the Immigration Reform Bill of 1965. |
