Description Miscellaneous personal papers belonging to Valentine Reimann, including his Army commission papers, a contract to become a shoe and boot making apprentice, his certificate of citizenship, a photocopy of a diary page reporting Abraham Lincoln's assassination, and a manuscript history of the Cornwall family and a biography of John Lawrence (ancestors of the Reimann family).
Series Description The collection includes correspondence, diaries, financial and legal records, genealogical information on the Cornwall and Lawrence families, and materials on Reimann's service in the Civil War in Company H., 141st Regiment of New York State.
Biographical Note / History Reimann was a German immigrant who settled in New York State. He fought during the American Civil War for the Union Army in General Sherman's regiment.
