Description | Journal written by the Surgeon Superintendent detailing the daily life on board. Dr Smith relates an incident where the prisoners attempted to steal from the ship stores by cutting through from one of the decks and other infractions and instances of disobedience. In his general remarks on the voyage, Smith also questions the wisdom of transporting firearms in the cargo of a convict ship. The log includes lists of convicts taken on board, stating their age, literacy levels, crime, sentence, character and conduct on board. It also includes lists of family members on board, with details of their conduct during the voyage and a list of those convicts who had distinguished themselves throughout the voyage. |
