| Description | Passengers contract ticket issued in Edinburgh to Charles W. Tennant for steerage passage on the Orient Line ship SS Liguria. The passage being from the Port of London (Tilbury) to the Port of Melbourne, sailing on the 31 March 1887. The ticket cost £16 16 shillings and was issued on 7 March 1887. |
| Biographical Note / History | Charles W. Tennant migrated from Edinburgh, Scotland in 1887, travelling to Melbourne to join his sister, Mrs J. Simpson. He settled in Carlton and worked as a carpenter. In 1899 lack of work forced him to leave Melbourne, and he moved to Fremantle, Western Australia. He became a builder and contractor around Fremantle, and two years later, in 1901, married. He had two daughters and died in 1941. His eldest daughter donated the ticket to Museum Victoria. |
