Biographical Note / History | The S.S. Numidian was a cargo-passenger ship commissioned by the Allen Line shipping company. Built in Glasgow, she was launched on the 9 June 1891 and sailed her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Quebec. From 22 May 1903 to 28 September 1905, she sailed from Glasgow to New York. She started her first Glasgow to Quebec to Montreal voyage on 21 April 1906 and in the same year she was downgraded to carry only 2nd and 3rd class passengers. Her last Glasgow to Montreal voyage left on 24 October 1914 and shortly after her return to Glasgow exactly a month later, she was sold to the British Admiralty. She was used as a block ship in Krik Sound during the First World War. |
