Description Letters from Roy Benson and Verna Benson to Fred Benson. The letters describe the terrible winter weather conditions that the crops have suffered as a result. Roy's well-drilling business is doing well so they have money coming in. At home, Verna writes that two of the children, and Roy, have had chicken pox. They have a very successful thrashing season as the weather stays dry, and mention that the land in the area is in high demand.
Series Description The fonds consists of letters written to Roy's father in Minnesota about the family and homesteading (1909-1920).
Biographical Note / History Roy Benson (1881-1953) emigrated to Canada from Michigan, USA in 1909. He homesteaded near Munson, Alberta. He and his wife, Verna (d. 1965), had three children, Fred, Beatrice (Mitchell) and Mildred (Fear). He farmed until 1948 when he retired due to poor health, and moved to Calgary.
