Description Letters from Roy Benson and Verna Benson to Fred Benson and other family members. They have extended the house so they are no longer living in one room and there is a good amount of work available for Roy and his well-digging machine. Roy relates that he made a good profit on his investment in the farm and both he and Verna tell of great opportunities for their family in Canada. Verna mentions that 30 men from the local town have gone to fight in the war and that one man they used to employ on the farm was killed.
Series Description The fonds consists of letters written to Roy's father in Minnesota about the family and homesteading (1909-1920).
Biographical Note / History Roy Benson (1881-1953) emigrated to Canada from Michigan, USA in 1909. He homesteaded near Munson, Alberta. He and his wife, Verna (d. 1965), had three children, Fred, Beatrice (Mitchell) and Mildred (Fear). He farmed until 1948 when he retired due to poor health, and moved to Calgary.
