| Description | Journal written by the Surgeon Superintendent detailing the daily life on board. Includes details of diet, crime and punishment, sickness and disease, daily duties, religious instruction and education. The log mentions the various prisons convicts were picked up from, including Dartmoor Prison, the printing of a weekly paper on board call the 'Life Boat' and the copious issue of lemon juice to all sailors and prisoners. Dr Bower also includes a complete list of convicts on board, with their age, place of birth, schooling and literacy levels and a list of those who underwent corporal punishment whilst at sea. |
