Description These occasional (later annual) guides were produced by the British Government to help inform emigrants and emigration officials. They include: Emigration Officers and their duties; cost of passage to the various colonies; advice to emigrants; effects of passengers dying on the voyage; notes on assisted passage schemes; expenses incurred by emigrants, such as passage rates; demand for labour in the colonies; prices in the colonies; wages in the colonies. There are also good notes on the disposal of crown lands in places as diverse as Ceylon, Hong Kong, New Zealand, North America and the Falkland Islands. There are details of timber licences in Australia and the discovery of goldfields. Also included is information on the Passengers' Act and indentured labour.
