Description | Includes several letters sent regarding conditions of ships and surgeons appointed to work on board emigration and convict ships. Most letters relate to the medical service and condition of the convict ship, 'Asia'. There are letters discussing wages earnt by surgeons, accommodation on board ship for passengers, as well as those appointed to select emigrants from British towns. There is also a letter relaying claims of women whose trunks had been lost on board the 'Lady McNaughton' emigrant ship. Other letters discuss sales of Crown lands in both Australia and New Zealand to compensate for the expense of sending emigrants to both. An index is included at the end of the volume. |
